MY OUTCOME

GREAT ESCAPES
Date: 2024
Project type: Installation
THE CHALLENGE
To run alongside or compliment a new National Archive exhibition on Great Escapes you have been approached to see what you can do for them. You are to identify a graphic opportunity which the archive does not currently exploit. The only stipulation is that they want you to explore beyond the obvious imagery.

Exploring the theme of escape, I used the image of a door as a symbolic and physical point of transition. The concept is designed as a promotional installation for a new exhibition at the National Archives, with life-sized doors placed in unexpected locations around the surrounding area to capture attention and spark curiosity.
The unexpected presence of these doors invites interaction, encouraging passersby to open them and discover what lies beyond. Inside would reveal the key exhibition details, including date, time, and location, printed onto a transparent layer of thick plastic to create a subtle and immersive effect.
To visualise this concept, I worked with a life-sized door, photographing it in context to suggest how the installation would appear in real-world settings.
